NSW: Trial date set for former soap star

SYDNEY, Feb 26 AAP - The trial of accused child molester and former TV soap star Gordon
Piper was set down today for August 23.

During a brief appearance in the New South Wales District Court at Penrith, the veteran of
the discontinued series A Country Practice indicated he would plead not guilty.

Piper, 66, is charged with two counts of sexual intercourse with a person aged between 10
and 14 years.

Police allege the wheelchair bound actor assaulted an 11-year-old girl at his western
Sydney home twice on the same day in August 1996.
