New plan for Station House

The Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) is planning to refurbish theformer Station House in Dundrum, Co Dublin, after agreeing to let itas a cafe and offices. A company based in Temple Bar has agreed topay in excess of the guideline rent of [euro]40,000 for the 1850sbuilding which was damaged by fire about two years ago. An adjoiningmodern building, which was also vandalised, is to be demolished.

The letting is subject to the approval of the RPA board. DunLaoghaire Rathdown County Council has yet to grant permission forthe refurbishment of the Station House. Ross Shorten of Lisney isadvising the RPA.

Large letting in Cork

McAfee Inc, one of the world's largest security technologycompanies, is to lease 5,666sq m (61,000sq ft) at City Gate inMahon, Cork for its new 120-strong sales team who will workalongside its existing 180 staff. It is one of the largest officelettings in Cork in recent years.

The American company will have an option on a further 1,393sq m(15,000sq ft). The 20-year lease provides for break options andincludes 135 car-parking spaces.The building, developed by JohnCleary Developments, is to be fitted out by early January tocoincide with the hiring of the sales staff. McAfee providessecurity systems on the internet to allow subscribers to browse andshop on the web more securely. Agent Downing Commercial handled theletting and Knight Frank advised the tenant.

Numode for Market Cross

UK fashion accessories trader Numode has leased the formerDynasty shop in the Market Cross shopping centre in Kilkenny citycentre. It will be paying a rent of [euro]35,000, including rates,for the unit which extends to 48.65sq m (524sq ft). The shop, likemost others in the centre, was sold to private investors in recentyears. Douglas Newman Good Commercial handled the letting.

Qld:Hueys in Long Tan flypast

Two helicopters will fly over Queensland today as parades and a church service mark
the anniversary of the battle of Long Tan, one of the bloodiest battles of the Vietnam
War.

The Iroquois helicopters will pass over Toowoomba, Brisbane, Bribie Island and Laidley
following a church service at Brisbane's St John's Cathedral.

Federal Opposition Leader MARK LATHAM will attend the service.

The Australian Defence Department says the helicopters, which are still in service,
will be accompanied from their base west of Brisbane by Caribou aircraft.

Eighteen Australians were killed and 24 were wounded at Long Tan on the August 18th,
1966, fighting the Vietcong.

Vic: Victorians warned of the dangers of fireworks

Victorians are being warned not to use illegal fireworks this Easter after a woman
partially lost her sight at a Greek Easter celebration last year.

WorkSafe's executive director JOHN MERRITT says last year's incident and another in
2002 when a teenage boy died after being struck on the head by a tube-launched shell,
highlight the dangers of fireworks.

He says fireworks are not toys.

Most types of fireworks have been illegal in Victoria for almost 20 years.

ADELAIDE, Feb 3 AAP - An Adelaide man will spend three years in jail for killing a
nine-year-old girl in a high speed road crash.

Jarrod Damian Payne, 32, was sentenced in the South Australian District Court today
after earlier pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

The father-of-five was speeding through a red light at a southern suburbs intersection
on January 13, 2003 when his car collided with another vehicle containing Alice Ralph
and her daughters Lauren, 11, and Abigail, 9.

Fed: Govt says claims of near miss are horrendous

A union's been accused of scaremongering over claims that a plane was within 20 seconds
of a mid-air disaster near Melbourne.

Transport Minister JOHN ANDERSON says the claim is horrendous.

He says it was simply one of more than 60 incidents since new airspace rules took effect
last week.

He says they are all routinely reported to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.

Virgin flight DJ980 from the Gold Coast to Melbourne was believed to be 20 seconds
from colliding with a twin-engine Cessna when an alarm was triggered yesterday as it was
descending north-west of Melbourne.

Mr ANDERSON said he can't guarantee there will never be a mid-air crash.

But he says the government wouldn't have implemented the new system last Thursday if
it didn't believe it was safe.

Fed: Thousands march against war in Canberra

CANBERRA, Feb 15 AAP - A crowd estimated at between 3,000 and 5,000 people began marchingthrough the central Canberra suburb of Civic this afternoon to protest against Australianinvolvement in an impending war in Iraq.

An ACT police spokesman estimated the crowd at 3,000 but organisers said it was thelargest protest crowd ever seen in Canberra and was at least 5,000 in number.

The rally heard from speakers such as federal Labor MP and former Western Australianpremier Carmen Lawrence and Catholic Bishop Pat Power.

Organiser and Australian National University Emeritus Professor Bob Douglas said hehad never seen a crowd so big at a Canberra rally.

"It's wall-to-wall people," he told AAP.

"It really is a very powerful statement. The Australian people have shown they don't want war."

Professor Douglas said the extent of the disquiet at Prime Minister John Howard's decisionto send troops to Iraq crossed political allegiances and reached into all walks of life.

An ACT police spokesman said the crowd had been well behaved.
